On November 27, a fire erupted at the Weyat Buddhist monastery in Weyat Village, Chaungtaung Village-tract, Ye Township, Mon State.

The fire started at 5.30 p.m. on November 27 following a wire shock caused by overheating of a solar panel installed at Wihara Mingalar monastery building in the compound of Weyat monastery, according to officials.

With the help of two fire engines and two water bowsers, security personnel, firefighters from the Township Fire Service Department, representatives of social aid organizations, and local residents attempted to put out the fire. At around 7 p.m., the fire was completely extinguished.

"The fire started when a solar panel overheated. The abbot of the monastery is more over 80 years old. A local villager remarked, "The whole building was burned down."

According to local sources, the entire monastery building spanning 60 feet by 40 feet was entirely demolished, yet no one was injured.
